South Middleton School District World Language Department
PSMLA Exemplary Program Award Recipient

The South Middleton School District World Language Department offers instruction through the Advanced Placement level in both French and Spanish. Following an exploratory World Language course in seventh grade, most students begin the study of either French or Spanish as a core academic subject in eighth grade. At the high school, a five course sequence in French and a six course sequence in Spanish are available, including honors level classes.

We are proud to offer our students many opportunities to practice the language beyond the classroom. These activities include the Société Honoraire de Français and the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica as well as French and Spanish clubs which meet during the high school resource period. Annual department highlights include the induction of new members into the French and Spanish Honor Societies, participation in the national French and Spanish exams, and activities related to National World Language Week. The World Language Department faculty is also committed to regularly offering summer opportunities for traveling abroad to various Francophone and Hispanic regions.

Please explore our website to learn more about World Language opportunities at all levels and do not hesitate to contact the World Language Department Chair, Cindy Bailey ([email protected]) with any questions you may have.
