Clubs and Activities
Boiling Springs High School has a variety of clubs and activities in which students may participate. Schedules of club meeting times can be found in classrooms or the main office and may change each semester.
BOOK BONDING
Advisor: Mrs. Maryalice Bond
Criteria: Any student who is interested in reading or learning about exciting young adult books may join.
Purpose: To share, encourage, and promote a love of reading.
DRAMA CLUB
Advisor: Miss Jess Teter
Eligibility Criteria: Grades 9-12
Purpose: No experience needed. Come and learn more about the wonderful world of theater!
FLY FISHING CLUB
Advisor: Ms. Megan Capuano
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: No experience needed; come learn more about fly fishing.
Le Cercle Français - FRENCH CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Cynthia Bailey
Eligibility Criteria: Students must be in the process or have already completed a sequence of French language courses.
Purpose: The French Club is open to students of all levels of French who are interested in learning more about the French language and culture. Activities include team games, written and conversational language practice, movies, competitions against the Spanish club and participation in World Language Week activities.
GENDER-SEXUALITY ALLIANCE/GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE
Advisors: Mrs. Samantha Moses
Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: Purpose: GSA is a safe and welcoming space for any student who wants to talk or learn about issues related to sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. It is meant to create a greater awareness about the issues and unique experiences faced by the LGBTQ community.
INTERACT CLUB
Advisor: Sra. Laura LaRose
Eligibility Criteria: Grades 9-12, dependent on application
Purpose: Interact is the community service club at the High School. We volunteer our time to better the school, district and community by helping to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of “Service Above Self.”
JAZZ BAND
Advisor: Mr. David Yinger
Criteria: Students must be enrolled members of the high school band program and will have a separate audition.
Purpose: Study and perform music of the Big Band Era, swing music, and popular music. Performs at various Jazz Band Festivals, concerts, and community events.
MINI-THON CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Allison Rose
Criteria: Students must apply for the following school year
Purpose: To raise money for the Four Diamonds Fund, benefiting children battling childhood cancer and their families.
Model UN
Advisor: Ms. Lauren Bozart
Eligibility Criteria: Grades 10-12
Purpose: Model UN is a simulation of the United Nations General Assembly and its other multilateral bodies where students perform an ambassador role while debating topics such as nuclear proliferation, climate action, global health, and more. Model UN attends five conferences throughout the school year with schools from Lancaster and York counties, as part of the Susquehanna Valley Model United Nations.
Mu Alpha Theta (National Mathematics Honor Society)
Advisor: Mrs. Kris Ahl
Eligibility Criteria: Students of Boiling Springs High School have the opportunity to become a member of Mu Alpha Theta, an internationally recognized honor society for math scholars at the high school and junior college levels.
Requirements for Membership in Mu Alpha Theta students must have:
1. Completed four semesters of college preparatory mathematics & be enrolled in a fifth semester of college prep mathematics.
2. Maintained a 90% or better weighted average in all college prep mathematics classes AND maintained a 3.5 or better weighted average in all classes.
3. A behavioral record free from suspension, instances of academic dishonesty, and/or a pattern of inappropriate behavior.
4. Transfer students will need to show proof of membership in Mu Alpha Theta from another school, or meet all of the above requirements and have completed at least one Math course at BSHS.
Purpose: he purpose of Mu Alpha Theta is to promote scholarship in mathematics along with enjoyment and understanding of the subject.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
Advisor: Mr. Jeffrey Schwartz
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must complete an online activity form, grades 10-12 and attendance at BSHS of at least one semester prior to selection, 93% weighted GPA as well as exemplary leadership, service and character. Selected members must demonstrate 20 or more hours of community service per year in order to maintain membership.
Purpose: To give recognition to deserving students in a national organization with chapters in many high schools across the country.
PERFECT PEERS INCLUSION CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Deb Mowe
Criteria: All students in grades 9-12 are welcome.
Purpose: Regular education students enjoy social events and activities with the life skills and MAC classrooms, promoting school wide inclusion and setting the example.
QUIZ BOWL
Advisor: Mr. Michael Bogdan
Criteria: Everyone is welcome. Students need to be available on Mondays after school for the first semester as that is when all practices and matches take place.
Purpose: Teams of BSHS students compete against other local high schools in the Capital Area Quiz Bowl League.
SOCIAL JUSTICE CLUB
Advisors: Mr. Matthew Brenner and Mr. Michael Freese
Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: is inclusive club discusses current social issues that our country and the world are facing today and how it impacts our everyday lives in Boiling Springs.
El Club de Español - SPANISH CLUB
Advisor: Mr. Michael Bogdan
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: The Spanish Club is open to students of all levels of Spanish who are interested in learning more about the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Activities include team games, conversation practice, vocabulary mini-lessons, cultural crafts, holiday celebrations, food tastings, competitions with the French Club, and participation in National Foreign Language Week activities.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Advisors: Miss Lauren Bozart and Miss Kim Nickle
Eligibility Criteria: Potential members must complete an application prior to elections in May, maintain a 70% GPA, and give a brief speech.
Purpose: The Student Council works to improve the school and community through projects and extra curricular activities such as monetary fundraisers, a canned food drive, and a variety of programs designed for the student body. The Student Council also sponsors the Homecoming and Winter dances.
Technology Student Association (TSA)
Advisors: Mr. Jason Jarrett, Mr. Connor Ronan, & Mr. Brian Shea
Criteria: Grades 9 - 12
Purpose: To provide students with an opportunity to further their knowledge in all technologies while competing with other students from across the country. Click here to learn more.
WELLNESS CLUB
Advisor: Ms. Kimberly Nickle
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: Our goal is to erase the stigmas that surround mental health and provide an outlet. During meetings we will learn new coping strategies and participate in activities.
YEARBOOK
Advisor: Mrs. Brooke Clugh
Eligibility Criteria: Only students in the full year yearbook course are eligible. All students enrolled in the yearbook course are required to sign up for yearbook as their day 5 club.
Purpose: Students meet during resource club periods to continue work done in class on The Bubbler yearbook.
YOUTH ALIVE CLUB
Advisors: Mr. Aaron Beardmore andMr. Jeffrey Schwartz
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: The Youth Alive Club is a Christian / Bible club that meets during resources. The goal of the club is to give students an opportunity to discuss issues they currently face, learn more about their faith, and meet with fellow Christians within the school. Anyone is welcome and invited to join one of the meetings.
Day 5 Clubs
Day 5 clubs are scheduled based on seniority (with priority given to upperclassmen and those who complete the form first). Students select their top 3 club choices (or a study hall) and submit a request.
ART CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Jessica Lay
Eligibility Criteria: Grades 9-12
Purpose: Inspiring and recognizing those students who are gifted in visual art. To aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in the visual arts and to bring visual arts education to the attention of the school and community.
BOARD GAME CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Wiedenmayer
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: To enjoy the collaboration and competition that occurs when playing board games. Students will have the opportunity to play classic games like Monopoly alongside more current titles like Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Catan. Offered on club resource days.
BRAIN BREAK CLUB
Advisors: Mrs. Bond and Mrs. Bailey
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: Students engage in a brain break - craft, play games, puzzle, etc. on club resource days.
BULLET JOURNALING CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Kate McCarney
Eligibility Criteria: Grades 9-12
Purpose: Students can doodle, write, plan, habit track, or be creative however they choose in their own journal. Offered on club resource days.
CHESS CLUB
Advisor: Mr. Richard Curtis
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: The Chess Club is a club for those interested in learning this classic game of strategy and skill. We accept all player skill levels from beginner to experienced.
COLORING CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Filburn
Eligibility Criteria: Grades 9-12
Purpose: Inspirational and topic coloring sheets will be available for a stress reducing, calming coloring session; students can also bring own coloring supplies
CORNHOLE CLUB
Advisor: Mr. Connor Ronan, Mr. Jason Jarrett, & Mr. Brian Shea
Eligibility Criteria: Positive, competitive attitude, and a team player
Purpose: Students will use their knowledge of geometry and physics to toss a bag full of artificial corn in the anticipation of having it land on a 2'x4' board. They will also need to anticipate the correct curve in order to land their bag directly into the hole (geometry). Additionally, students will need to calculate the correct amount of force needed in order to have the bag reach the board when taking into account drag and weight of the bags (physics).
ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT CULTURE CLUB
Advisors: Mrs. Doersom and Mrs. Stirkey
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: Learn about the various cultures of students in our school. We will discuss languages, holidays, food, clothing, and customs in general.
FILM DISCUSSION CLUB
Advisor: Ms. Herrmann
Eligibility Criteria: Grades 9-12
Purpose: Outside of school, students will watch films of varied genres and topics. During club meetings, students will discuss characterization, thematics, cinematography, directorial choices, etc.
KNITTING AND CROCHETING CLUB
Advisor: Miss Lauren Bozart & Miss Kim Nickle
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: To learn how to knit or crochet!
LINK CREW
Advisor: Mr. Harker
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome.
Purpose: Link Crew focuses on providing connection opportunities for each year’s incoming freshman class. We host an “orientation day” in the summer for rising freshmen. We provide support specifically for freshmen in the first week of school. We host the annual Club Fair for freshmen early in the school year, and sometimes do building tours for 8th graders in the spring. If you’d like to help incoming freshmen feel more at home at BSHS, Link Crew is for you!
Students Against Sexual Harassment Club (SASH)
Advisors: Mrs. Nitchman and Mrs. Weaver
Eligibility Criteria: Everyone is welcome
Purpose: “SASH Club brings together peers — of all genders, races, ethnicities, and orientations — to educate themselves and others about sexual harassment and assault, support survivors, and make real change.” -
